Plus, take photos with four larger-than-life alebrije statues created by San Antonio artist Mauro de la Tierra.
Here’s some background information about the alebrije statues:
Alebrijes are not only for Día de los Muertos, but the association has become more prominent due to their depiction in the movie Coco. Alebrijes are a distinct form of Mexican folk art, originally created by Pedro Linares López in the 20th century and not part of traditional Day of the Dead lore. However, their vibrant colors and fantastical forms make them a popular and fitting decoration for many Mexican celebrations, where they are sometimes incorporated as spirit guides or simply as beautiful art pieces.
