National Poetry Month 2026 Finale at The Twig Book Shop
Featuring Sheila Black and Laura Van Prooyen
Part of our New Book This Year 2025–2026 Series

As National Poetry Month 2026 draws to a close, we invite you to join us at The Twig Book Shop for a meaningful and memorable finale — an evening of powerful poetry, conversation, and community in the heart of San Antonio.

This special event is part of our New Book This Year 2025–2026 series, celebrating recently published works and the vibrant voices shaping today’s literary landscape.

We are honored to welcome two extraordinary poets:

Sheila Black, author of The Loneliness of Walking Out, whose work explores themes of resilience, isolation, transformation, and the quiet courage it takes to step forward — or step away. With clarity and compassion, her poems invite us into moments of reckoning and rediscovery.

And Laura Van Prooyen, author of Frances of the Wider Fields, whose poetry moves through landscapes of memory, belonging, family, and loss. Her language is luminous and grounded, attentive to the textures of both place and interior life.

Together, these poets bring depth, tenderness, and strength to the closing night of National Poetry Month at The Twig. This evening marks not just the end of a month-long celebration, but the continuation of conversations that poetry uniquely opens — about identity, community, endurance, and hope.

Come help us close National Poetry Month 2026 with beauty, insight, and the shared experience of the spoken word.
